Support to Jamaica's Third National Communication to the UNFCCC and First Biennial Report

Over the years, UNDP has consistently supported Jamaica’s efforts to prepare its National Communication documents for implementation of the country’s obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Under this project, UNDP is helping Jamaica prepare its Third National Communication and its First Biennial Report to the UNFCC. Support provided by UNDP will assist Jamaica to:

  • Conduct a national inventory of greenhouse gas emissions  for the Third National Communication
  • Undertake vulnerability and adaptation assessments by developing case studies in communities that are at greatest risk from climate change impacts
  • Compile  and publish/disseminate the Third National Communication document

Project Achievements So Far

  • Some stakeholder consultations have been conducted in support of data gathering
  • Support given for the preparation of a Jamaican position paper for the Conference of Parties (COP 20) held in December 2014 in Lima Peru and for the participation of two Jamaican participants in this meeting
  • Selection of GHG Inventory Analysis Epert following UNDP’s procurement procedures for international experts and selection of five national experts to faciliate preparation of content for the Third National Communication
