In Jamaica, UNDP is committed to supporting capacity development of its national partners to adopt approaches that advance women’s rights and take account of the full range of their contributions to development including capacities in drafting critical policies and legislation such as the Sexual Offences Act, the National Strategic Plan against Gender-Based Violence, the draft International Migration and Development Policy and the draft Overarching Policy for Protected Areas.

Drawing on a vision in which the SDGs guide all policy, we support national partners to accelerate their progress towards the SDGs by identifying and responding to the gender equality dimensions of its four inter-related Focus Areas: poverty reduction, democratic governance, crisis prevention and recovery and environment and sustainable development. With strong operations and institutional arrangements for gender equality, UNDP will extend continued support to the improvement of nationally -relevant and sustainable gender equality results and in the identification and removal of internal barriers to women’s advancement into senior management, including women from developing countries.

In order to assess effective impact of development strategies, a gender sensitive budgeting as well as the use of disaggregated data are key means and tools through which UNDP Jamaica will ensure the implementation of this strategy by dedicating sufficient internal human resources to its implementation, and actively mobilizing complementary external resources where needed.
