The UNDP and the Global Fund have signed a new US$7 million grant to address human rights barriers to HIV services in eight Caribbean countries – Belize, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. The funds will focus on promoting and protecting human rights and access to HIV services for key populations.

At the launch of Phase II of the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP) Dr. Arun Kashyap, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative pointed out that globally, more people live in urban areas than in rural areas. He also pointed out that in 2014, 54% of the world’s population lived in urban areas, and that by 2050, it is projected that 66 per cent of the world’s population will be urban.
