Objectives


The general objective of the project is to evaluate existing needs and to propose a program to build institutional and human resources capacity for conservation and sustainable use of Jamaica's biodiversity.

Expected Results

    Relevant information to develop and implement policies and legislation regarding preservation of indigenous knowledge, access to genetic resources and benefit sharing.  

    Enhanced ability and resources to conduct consultation with stakeholders

    Increased capacity of the JA-CHM to provide relevant data.

    The public sensitized to the JA-CHM and its potential to assist in national development

 

Profile:

The will assess Jamaica’s existing capabilities, needs and priorities to fulfil it’s obligations under the Convention of Biological Diversity and includes:

  • Assessing capacity needs in the areas of preservation of indigenous knowledge, access to genetic resources and benefit sharing
  • Conducting initial assessments and identify monitoring programs, including taxonomy for biodiversity
  • Increasing the capacity of the JA-CHM to provide relevant data to assist the country’s development of the various sectors
  • Sensitizing the public to the JA-CHM and it’s potential to assist in economic planning and hence development
  • Developing the Third National Report to the CBD and the Clearing House
