Jamaica will be among countries represented virtually when the 8th Global Democratic Governance Community ofPractice (DG CoP) meeting takes place in the Senegalese capital Dakar, February 15-19.Jamaica Partners for Peace, the first country-wide virtual network of national peace, justice and security stakeholders, which was launched in November 2009, will be among those highlighted as a “success story” in the discussions.In preparation for the meeting, the organizers invited UNDP Country Offices to submit information about achievements and innovations in governance projects and programmes being implemented around the world. The Jamaican CoP was one of the model experiences selected for inclusion in the meeting proceedings.Under the banner “Building an effective, responsive and capable State,” organizers are bringing together members of the Oslo Governance Centre; Regional Service Centers, Practice Teams, and Bureaus, as well as selected country level practitioners, managers and leaders to discuss how best to sustain the efforts in the respective regions given the current global financial situation. The upcoming meeting is important in providing support for democratic governance which is key to people living their best lives in their respective regions of the world.In addition to Jamaica, model experiences will be highlighted from Benin; Burundi; Cape Verde; Congo (Brazzaville); Democratic Republic of Congo; Egypt; India; Indonesia; Iraq;Kenya; Lebanon; Macedonia; Panama; Rwanda; Saudi Arabia; Sierra Leone; Sri Lanka; Tanzania; Timor Leste; Turkey; and Turkmenistan.
