Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP)

The GEF SGP has been working in Jamaica since the programme’s official launch in 2005. Twice per year,  the programme issues calls for concepts which are funded to a maximum of 50 000 USD per concept. Standout proposals which satisfy prescribed requirements can be funded up to 150 000 USD.

GEF SGP provides grant funding to community based organizations and non-governmental organizations to help them protect the environment, adapt to the challenges posed by climate change and generate sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable communities across the island.

The programme is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by UNDP on behalf of the GEF partnership, and is executed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

GEF-SGP has supported projects across a number of parishes in Jamaica. Projects include rainwater harvesting, sustainable agriculture, land management and watershed protection, renewable energy and biodiversity conservation.
